Monensin is an antiprotozoal agent produced by Streptomyces cinnamonensis. Monensin is a sodium and proton селективный ionophore and is widely used as such in biochemical studies, particularly as an anti-tumor agent. It has an inhibitory effect on the Wnt/β-catenin signaling cascade, which may be useful when the cascade is aberrantly activated in cancer cells. Monensin is a prospective anticancer препарат for therapy of neoplasia with deregulated Wnt signaling.
